Exigence - or - Why I Felt the Need to Create this Blog

12 August 2012.

Wow. 6th Edition is here, and I feel like it incorporated many facets of our house rules here are the Lower Register.

Go us. GW, you can have those for free.

Plz look for some updates soon as I try to figure out how my precious BA will fit in to the world of Overwatch and Random Charging distances. Gotta say, so far, I am loving the idea of 5 attacks per Death Company Marine (2 base, 2 for charging, 1 for extra weapon).

Why Lower Register? Pedro and I started playing various wargames about five years ago, but found that we just didn't have time to complete standard games. We, along with our limited pool of playing partners, decided that we would become good at skirmish games that we could enjoy on a regular basis. So, over time we amassed a body of experience in Kill Team, Warmachine, Infinity, and other such games. This blog is the natural outgrowth of that experience, and our desire to share it with you all.

Cracked Earth Base

Pedro here,

While putting together the new 2 Player Warmachine Box Set I have also started to toy with creating some different bases. After reading a wonderful stage by stage walkthrough for painting Protectorate on brushthralls that also describes an interesting basing technique for cracked earth, I thought I would give it a go.

Step 1: Take a common Warmachine base and cover it up to the crease with Green Stuff. Make sure that you carve out enough time to finish this project before the Green Stuff cures.

Step 2: With a putty tool or toothpick begin to carve out lines in the shape of cracked earth. I used a hexagonal pattern blended with a square pattern. Don't feel like you have to get it symmetric, in fact if it is too symmetric it wont look real!
Step 3: Once the Green Stuff has dried paint the entire surface with Bestial Brown, making sure that you get the paint inside all of the creases.
Step 4: Once the layer of Bestial Brown has dryed, then apply a wash of Delvan Mud. Then apply highlights of 1:3 mix of Bestial Brown and Bleached Bone (I used Privateer Press Menoth White Base but they are basically the same). Make sure when applying highlights that you pick a side of your base that will be the direction of your light source and paint your highlights on the same edge as that source.
And there you have it, paint time was extremely short...about 15 mins and you get a really cool base effect!

Pedro
